Rosetta Howard was born on August 30, 1913, in Woodruff County, Arkansas. She began her career after her move to Chicago, Illinois, singing to jukebox pieces while working as a waitress at a local club. By 1932, she became a professional singer, performing with Jimmy Noone and other bandleaders. In 1937, Howard recorded several tracks with the Harlem Hamfats, including "If You're A Viper" and "Let Your Linen Hang Low". Throughout the 1940s, she continued performing in Chicago and achieved notable success with her 1955 release titled "Ebony Rhapsody" on the R&B charts. Her complete recorded works from 1929-1947 were compiled and released posthumously as Complete Recorded Works 1929-1947 in Chronological Order in 1994. Howard passed away on October 8, 1974, in Chicago.
