Roberto Lugo is a Puerto Rican salsa singer, songwriter and actor born on October 15, 1953, in Guayama, Puerto Rico. He first stood out in 1971, when he received a Bellas Artes prize as best soloist in a Puerto Rican school competition, and made his first professional recording in 1978 with Charanga Kreacion. In 1980, he became the lead singer for Luis âPericoâ Ortiz, recording several albums with the bandleader, including Sabroso! in 1982, before beginning his solo recording career in the mid-1980s. His early solo albums included Este Es Roberto Lugo in 1986 and El Galán De La Salsa in 1987, where he developed a romantic salsa style built around smooth vocals and self-written material such as "Nos Amamos", "Que Se Acabe" and "Más Amor". In 1989, Roberto Lugo released Hecho A La Medida, the album that included "Corazón En Blanco", "Entrégate", "Jugando Con Mi Vida", "Balada Para Una Mujer Enamorada" and his signature song "Por Ser Tan Niña", which he also wrote. He followed in 1991 with Aquà Estoy Yo, featuring "Abeja y Flor", "Quédate", "Compárame y Verás", "Lo Siento" and "Si Me Dejas Amarte". Alongside his own recordings, Roberto Lugo also wrote songs recorded by other salsa artists, including Jerry Riveraâs "Cara de Niño" and "De Otra Manera", Giroâs "Corazón de Hielo" and Kim de los Santosâ "Buscando un Amor". In 2004, he returned with Mi Bandera, then continued releasing new material and collaborations in the 2010s and 2020s, including "Amnesia", "Como Yo Te Amo", "Te Extraño", Orquesta Dynnastiaâs "Busco Alguien" with Christopher Rey, and "Si Me Toca Ando" with Los Hermanos Lebrón in 2025.
