Biography

Roberto Delgado & Orquesta is a Panamanian salsa orchestra based in Panama City, led by Roberto Delgado. Their breakthrough came with Rubén Blades' album La Rosa de los Vientos (1996), after which they became his backing band for most projects. The band has released several studio albums, including Roberto Delgado & Orquesta (2004) and Son de Panamá (2015), which won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album and the Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album. Their album Salsa Big Band (2017) was awarded the Latin Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album, Album of the Year, and the Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album. The collaboration expanded with Salswing! (2021), a project fusing salsa and swing that won Latin Grammy Album of the Year and a Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album, supported by the companion releases Salsa Plus! and Swing! in 2021, with Salsa Plus! also taking the Latin Grammy for Best Salsa Album. In 2023 the orchestra backed Blades on the live set Siembra 45 Aniversario (En Vivo en el Coliseo de Puerto Rico), which again received both Latin Grammy and Grammy recognition in tropical categories, reinforcing the band’s status as one of the most decorated salsa ensembles of its era. In February 2025 they released Fotografías, an eight-track album credited to Rubén Blades and Roberto Delgado & Orquesta that combined new compositions and revisited pieces, and in November 2025 the recording won Best Salsa Album at the 26th Annual Latin Grammy Awards, adding another major accolade to the orchestra’s long-running collaboration with Blades.
