Biography

Robert Albert Wessels, known professionally as Robbie Wessels, was born on October 30, 1980, in Kroonstad, South Africa. He studied dramatology at the Technikon of Pretoria and graduated in 2002. His breakthrough came with his role as Anton in the radio play Blinkwater and later as Poena Pieterse in the television series Gauteng alÃªng-alÃªng. Wessels' music career began with the release of his debut album, "My Vissermanvriend Se Pa" (2005), which earned him the title "Beste Nuweling" from Huisgenoot magazine. His song "Leeuloop" was named Song of the Year by the same publication in 2006 and featured prominently in Vodacom's advertising campaigns. Throughout his career, Wessels released several albums including Halley Se Komeet (2007), Afrika Sonsak (2009) and Kaalvoet (2011).
