Biography

Rivers of Nihil was formed in 2009 in Reading, Pennsylvania. The band plays technical/progressive death metal. Current members are Brody Uttley (lead guitar, keyboards, programming), Adam Biggs (bass, lead vocals since 2022), Jared Klein (drums, backing vocals) and Andy Thomas (rhythm guitar, backing vocals since 2023). Former members include Jake Dieffenbach (vocals 2009-2022), Jon Kunz, Ron Nelson, Alan Balamut, Dylan Potts and Jon Topore. The debut album The Conscious Seed of Light is released on October 15, 2013 via Metal Blade Records and marks the beginning of the four-season tetralogy. This was followed by Monarchy (August 21, 2015), which reached number 17 in the US hard rock charts. On March 16, 2018, Where Owls Know My Name is released, which debuts at number 61 in the US Billboard 200 charts. It becomes the band's best-known work. It is followed by The Work on September 24, 2021, which enters the top 15 of the German charts. At the end of May 2025, the band released their fifth studio album Rivers of Nihil . Important singles in more recent order are "The Sub-Orbital Blues" (June 15, 2023), "Hellbirds" (October 19, 2023), "Criminals" (April 29, 2024) and "House of Light" (February 6, 2025), which is also the first herald of the recently released album.
