Biography

Rimona Francis, born in Tel Aviv, is an Israeli jazz pianist and singer. With ancestral roots tracing back to Bulgaria, she began her career in the late 1960s by recording one of Israel's earliest jazz albums with her husband, Stu Hacohen. Their work featured distinctive vocal instrumentals and Bulgarian rhythms. In the mid-1970s, Francis performed in the USA at the invitation of Dizzy Gillespie and appeared at several European festivals. She contributed vocals to David Friedman’s Future Passed (1976) and collaborated with Miroslav Vitouš on his album Majesty Music. Her solo album, Rimona Francis, was released by MPS in 1978.
