Biography
Deanna Bogart is an American pianist, singer, songwriter and saxophone player born on September 5, 1959 in Washington, D.C.. Her musical career began at age 21 as a member of the Western swing band Cowboy Jazz. After the group dissolved, she joined the Washington-based rhythm and blues outfit Root Boy Slim. Bogart blends these various styles in her compositions, which also draw on jazz and soul influences. In 1989, she began her recording career. Her studio recordings include the albums Out to Get You (1991), Crossing Borders (1992) and The Great Unknown (1998). Subsequent releases included the albums Real Time (2006), Eleventh Hour (2009) and Pianoland (2012). Bogart has performed with numerous artists including Jimmy Buffett, B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Ray Charles. Between 2008 and 2010, she earned three consecutive Blues Music Awards for Instrumentalist-Horn.
