The Blues Project originated in Newâ¯York Cityâs Greenwich Village in 1965, formed by guitarist Dannyâ¯Kalb, drummer Royâ¯Blumenfeld, bassist Andyâ¯Kulberg, and later joined by vocalist Tommyâ¯Flanders and guitarist Steveâ¯Katz. Their first single, "No Time Like The Right Time", appeared in 1966. The groupâs debut live album, Live at the Cafeâ¯Auâ¯Goâ¯Go, was recorded in late 1965 and released in 1966, establishing their presence on the Newâ¯York club circuit. In 1966 they released Projections, an eclectic collection that highlighted Kalbâs rendition of "Two Trains Running". After a brief period of touring, the band signed with MGMâs Verve/Folkways subsidiary, and in 1967 released Live at Town Hall, a compilation that included their chartâonly single "No Time Like the Right Time". The Blues Project performed at the Monterey International Pop Festival in June 1967 before disbanding; subsequent members pursued projects such as Seatrain and Blood, Sweat & Tears. The band reassembled briefly in the early 1970s, issuing Lazarus (1971), The Blues Project (1972), and Reunion in Central Park (1973), but these releases had limited commercial impact.
