Biography

Richard Reed Parry, born 4 October 1977 in Canada, is a Canadian composer, multi‑instrumentalist and producer who first emerged as a core member of the indie rock band Arcade Fire. His early training in electroacoustics at Concordia University and experience with the vegetarian camp Camp Au Grand Bois laid a foundation for his experimental approach. Richard Reed Parry’s breakthrough came with the "Just a Blip" single in 2014, followed by the debut album Music for Heart and Breath (2014) featuring Kronos Quartet and yMusic. He released Quiet River of Dust, Vol. 1 (2018) and Quiet River of Dust, Vol. 2: That Side of the River (2019), drawing on folk and Buddhist themes. Parry composed scores for the films The Nest (2020), Eileen (2023), and The Iron Claw (2023), earning critical acclaim. His work with Arcade Fire contributed to the band’s 2013 Reflektor album, which won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, and his collaborations with Bell Orchestre and The National and other artists have solidified his reputation as a versatile composer across genres. In 2026, he released the album Were "The Watchtowers", a project he had been working on since 2006 with the Dallas Good, dead in 2022.
