Biography

Reshma, born around 1947 in Loha, Ratangarh, Churu near Bikaner, Rajasthan, India, was a Pakistani folk singer. Born into a nomadic Banjara household, her family relocated to Karachi after the Partition of India. Reshma's musical journey began at the age of twelve when she was discovered by Saleem Gilani while singing at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan, Sindh. Her first recording, "Lal Meri Pat Rakhio", released on Radio Pakistan in 1968, catapulted her to fame. Reshma went on to record numerous folk songs for the Pakistani and Indian film industries, with notable hits including "Hai O Rabba Nahion Lagda Dil Mera" and "Ankhiyan Nu Rehen De". She received the Pride of Performance Award in 1982 and the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2008. Reshma's health deteriorated due to throat cancer, which led to her death on November 3, 2013, in Lahore, Pakistan.
