Biography

Reinhard Voigt, born in Germany, was a German disc jockey who began his career in electronic music. In 1993, he co-founded Kompakt, an independent record label and vinyl/CD distributor based in Cologne, with Wolfgang Voigt, Jörg Burger, Jürgen Paape, and Michael Mayer. The label specialized in microhouse and minimal techno and was known for its Total compilation series. In 1998, Kompakt was formally established, combining several existing labels, a record store, distributor, and event organizing activities. Voigt's brother Wolfgang Voigt founded Profan as a sublabel to Kompakt in 1993, which featured material by both brothers. Reinhard Voigt released his first EP, Robson Ponte, in 1999. He continued to release music under the label, including albums such as Premiere World (2000) and Im Wandel der Zeit (2001), as well as EPs like Speicher 13 (2003). Voigt's contributions to electronic music were significant, particularly through his involvement with Kompakt.
