Biography

Karl Heinz Schwab, known professionally as Ralf Bendix, was born on August 16, 1924, in Germany. He began his music career playing modern music in bands during and after World War II. In 1955, he performed in a regional television show in Pittsburgh and was discovered in a talent competition for the German music market. This led to a recording contract with Electrola, where he released his first single "Sie hieß Mary Ann" in June 1956, which reached second place on the German hit singles chart. Ralf Bendix's career took off with hits like "Hotel Zur Einsamkeit (Heartbreak Hotel)" (1956) and "Babysitter-Boogie" (1961), the latter of which stayed at Number 1 for five weeks and earned him a Golden Record in 1961. Throughout his career, Ralf Bendix released numerous albums including Auf Wiedersehn (1959), Hits (1961), and Ralf Bendix Singt Rock'n'Roll (1981). He also appeared in films such as Der lachende Vagabund and television series like Haifischbar. In addition to his singing career, Ralf Bendix was a producer and talent maker, discovering artists like Heino. After retiring from show business, he lived in Monaco, Florida, and Switzerland until his death on September 1, 2014.
