Erik Silvester, born Erik Herschmann on September 24, 1942, in Briesen, Reichsgau Sudetenland, was a German composer known for his contributions to pop and Schlager music. After completing a three-year acting training program and studying harmony and composition, he began his musical career by releasing his first single, "Karina-Lu", in 1960. He played multiple instruments including guitar, bass, piano, drums, and saxophone. Erik Silvester's breakthrough came with the release of "Dann fiel die Tür zu" in September 1967, which reached number 26 on the German charts. His subsequent hits included "Ich seh’ die Mädchen gern vorübergehn" (1969), which peaked at number 16, and "Zucker im Kaffee" (1969), composed by Hans Blum, which hit number 14. Another notable success was "Wenn die Trommel ruft", released in February 1976, which reached number 11 on the German charts. Throughout his career, Erik Silvester's works sold over 25 million copies worldwide. He also appeared in various television music shows, including multiple appearances on ZDF-Hitparade during the 1970s. In the 1990s, he released several new titles but did not achieve the same level of success as in his earlier years. Erik Silvester passed away on November 23, 2008, at the age of 66, in Köln-Rodenkirchen due to heart failure.
