Rafael Anton Irisarri, born in New York, is an American composer, producer, and mastering engineer recognized for his contributions to ambient, drone, and experimental music. Influenced by classical composers like Debussy and Wagner and modern artists like Kevin Shields, his work blends textural density with introspective themes. Irisarri is also the driving force behind The Sight Below, an electronic shoegaze project signed to Ghostly International. Throughout his career, Irisarri has performed worldwide, captivating audiences at festivals like Sónar, DEMF, and MUTEK. His live shows, known for their improvisational nature, utilize custom looping software to recreate the intricate textures of his studio recordings. In December 2010, he released a collection of live recordings, showcasing his ability to translate his dense, layered soundscapes into compelling performances. Irisarri's collaborations include projects with Benoît Pioulard, Fennesz, and Grouper, as well as remixing works for artists like Pantha Du Prince and School of Seven Bells. In 2012, he co-founded the project Orcas with Pioulard, releasing an acclaimed debut album on Morr Music. Beyond music, he has contributed to audiovisual works and live media art, reinforcing his status as a multidimensional artist within the contemporary electronic music scene.
