Biography

Ariel Kalma (1947 – June 2025), born in Paris, began playing recorder at nine and saxophone at fifteen. While studying computer science, music, and art, he joined Salvatore Adamo’s touring band, meeting guitarist Baden Powell and exploring experimental tape music. In 1974, Kalma traveled to India, absorbing classical Indian and meditative music, later mastering circular breathing. Back in France, he worked at INA’s GRM and released his first album Le Temps des Moissons (1975), followed by Osmose (1978). Over subsequent decades, he produced dozens of ambient, electronic, and new-age albums. In 2014, RVNG released An Evolutionary Music, charting on Billboard in 2015.
