Biography

Raúl Alberto Carnota, born on October 30, 1947, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a guitarist, singer-songwriter, and percussionist known for his contributions to traditional music. Raised in Mar del Plata, Carnota had a brief stint with the group Los Huanca Hua in 1968 and began his professional career in 1972 as part of Adolfo Ábalos' group, participating in notable performances such as El piano en sus tres dimensiones. Throughout the 1970s, he collaborated with prominent figures like Susana Rinaldi, Inés Rinaldi, Julio Lacarra, and others. In the late 1970s, Carnota formed a trio with Rodolfo Sánchez and Eduardo Spinassi, which led to his songs "Grito santiagueño" and "Salamanqueando pa’ mí" being featured on Mercedes Sosa's Como un pájaro libre (1983). His discography includes albums like Contrafuego (1994), Reciclón (1998), Fin de siglo (1999), and Espejos I (2005). Carnota passed away on September 27, 2014, from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In 2015, he received the Premio Konex post mortem as one of the top five folk singers of the decade in Argentina.
