Sunidhi Chauhan â born in New Delhi, India on August 14, 1983 â is a Bollywood playback singer who is best-known for hits such as âRuki Ruki Si Zindagiâ (from the 1999 motion picture Mast) and âMehboob Mereâ (from 2000âs Fiza). She sings predominantly in Hindi but has also recorded songs in other languages including Punjabi, Pakistani, Marathi, Tamil, English, Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali. Her musical journey began when she became interested in music at a young age and started singing at the age of four. She performed at local gatherings and participated in competitions, eventually moving with her family to Mumbai and joining the Little Wonders troupe. She made her playback debut at the age of 11 with âLadki Deewani Dekhoâ (from the 1996 film Shastra). With such a strong voice at a young age, she became one of the most popular young playback singers in the industry. Not content to focus on one genre, she began taking classical singing lessons in the hopes of appealing to a wider audience. Her Western music influences â including pop, rock, R&B, and hip-hop â allowed her to approach her singing in a more universal way. She came to prominence with 1999âs "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi" (taken from the film Mast) which was the first in a series of popular recordings including "Mehboob Mere" (from 2000âs Fiza), "Dhoom Machale" (from 2004âs Dhoom), "Kaisi Paheli" (from 2005âs Parineeta), "Deedar De" (from 2005âs Dus), and âBeediâ (from 2006âs Omkara). Continuing to be an extremely popular playback singer into the 2010s and 2020s, her later hits include âSheila Ki Jawanieâ (from 2010âs Tees Maar Khan), "Clara My Name is Clara" (from 2021âs Laabam), "Two Two Twoâ (from 2021âs Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal), and âRa Ra Rakkammaâ (from 2022âs Vikrant Rona).
