Biography

Born in Narbonne on June 8, 1938, Pierre Alfred Genard, aka Pedro Soler, is one of the masters of contemporary flamenco guitar. In the course of a long career that began in the 1950s, this French guitarist, influenced by the style of Ramon Montoya and the poetry of Garcia Lorca, has crossed paths with many musicians: Jacinto AlmadÃ¨n, Pericon de Cadiz, Enrique Morentes, Rafael Romero, Atahualpa Yupanqui and singers Maria BethÃ¢nia and Germaine Montero. A fan of musical and literary crossovers, he has collaborated on several occasions with Basque singer BeÃ±at Achiary, notably on the album Lili Purprea (1991), in the company of Bernard Lubat and Dominique Regef, and then on PrÃ¨s du CÅur Sauvage (2000). Other encounters enrich a repertoire open to the world, with Renaud Garcia-Fons(Suite Andalouse, 1994), Ravi Prasad (1998) and then InÃ¨s BacÃ n, BeÃ±at Achiary, Majid Bekkas and Ramon Lopez for the concert La CitÃ© Invisible - Rencontre Ã Casablanca (2003 ). In 2011, Pedro Soler and his son Gaspar Claus produced the album Barlande in New York, followed five years later by Al Viento. Now artistic director of the Guitares au Palais festival in Perpignan, Pedro Soler died on August 3, 2024 at the age of 86.
