Biography
Banding together in 1993, Halifax, Nova Scotia power-pop quartet Plumtree were initially formed by Amanda Braden (vocals, guitar), Nina Martin (bass), and sisters Carla and Lynette Gillis (guitar and drums, respectively) and introduced themselves via a six-track demo tape, Flutterboard, in 1994. Their debut full-length, Mass Teen Fainting, followed in 1995, taking titular inspiration from the liner notes of a Bay City Rollers LP. They were named Best Canadian Band Under Twenty at the YTV Achievement Awards in 1997 and fast becoming celebrated indie stars on home soil. The group's second album, Predicts the Future (1997), saw them edge closer to the spotlight; the LP was a chart-topping hit on Canadian college radio and beloved single "Scott Pilgrim" formed the catalyst for Bryan Lee O'Malley's hit graphic novel series of the same name. However, Plumtree bowed out of music following the release of their third album This Day Won't Last At All in 2000.
