Pierre-Yves Leman, or Piwi Leman as he calls himself, is an acrobat in the literal sense of the word. This resident of Wallonia likes to provoke and express his thoughts in a crude and amusing way, at the heart of his music. A percussion teacher in particular, he started out as a member of a duo, FiTZ, in which he sings and plays drums. Together with his sidekick Damien Polfliet, they played an abrupt, frontal rock ("La pêche aux morts") that enabled them to tour regularly, particularly in Belgium and Switzerland. However, Pierre-Yves' musical productivity is more widely expressed through his own compositions. Under the pseudonym Piwi Leman, he began his discography in 2004 with Ãm, followed by Les Caricoles (2008) and Mary M (2008). Less straightforward in rock instrumentation than the music he produces with FiTZ, his palette broadens to include guitar-vocal tracks on Toujours Debout (2019). After a 4-track EP, Piwi Leman Exposant 4 (2009), on which he reunited with more musicians in the sound production, Verbum Polecat(2021) is the quintessential album in his style, both lyrically and in the breadth of production, from rock to folk. Above all, Verbum Polecat, translated into French as parole de putois, is a direct reference to the shameless verbiage of its author, establishing him as a true troubadour of the 21st century.
