Biography

Pirkko Martta Irmeli Mannola, known professionally as Pirkko Mannola, was born on December 27, 1938, in Valkeakoski, Finland. She launched her career as a singer after winning the Miss Finland pageant in 1958. Her musical debut came with a Finnish cover version of "Diana" (1959) under the Triola label. Mannola's success led to appearances at events like the Berlin Film Festival in 1960 and a signing with Decca Records in Germany later that year. Her debut German single, featuring "Weil es die Liebe so will" (1961) and "Bam-Schi-Bam" (1961), was released under the name Pirko Manola. Collaborations with Wyn Hoop, including the hit duet "Mama will dich sehn" (1962), which reached number 28 on the Musikmarkt charts, marked significant milestones in her career.
