Peter Oelrichs Duchin, born July 28, 1937, in New York City, was an American pianist and band leader. Raised by family friends after his parents' deaths, he studied piano at Eaglebrook School and later graduated from Yale University. In 1962, Duchin formed his first professional band, which played at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. His music, a blend of big bands, swing, Broadway songs, and rock 'n' roll, gained popularity on middle-of-the-road radio stations in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Notable albums include His Piano And Orchestra At The St. Regis (1963) and The Peter Duchin Discotheque Dance Party (1964). His single "Star Dust" reached number 143 in the Cashbox survey in 1964.
