Biography
Paul Wetstein, also known as Paul Weston, was born on March 12, 1912, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and was an American pianist, arranger, composer, and conductor. He formed his own band, the Green Serenaders, during his time at Dartmouth College and sold his first arrangements to Joe Haymes in 1934. Weston joined Tommy Dorsey's orchestra in 1936 and later worked with Dinah Shore, moving to Hollywood for film work. In California, he met Johnny Mercer, who invited him to write for Capitol Records. He became the music director there, developing the mood music genre with singer Jo Stafford. Their collaboration continued at Columbia Records, where they married in 1952. His notable compositions include "I Should Care" and "Day by Day". He helped start the Grammy Awards in 1959 and was honored with a Grammy Trustees Award in 1971. He passed away on September 20, 1996.
