Paul Collins' Beat, an American power pop band from Los Angeles, was formed in 1979. The group's roots trace back to The Nerves, a power pop trio featuring Paul Collins on drums, Peter Case, and Jack Lee. After The Nerves disbanded, Collins established The Beat with Mike Ruiz and Steven Huff. In October 1979, the band released their self-titled debut album under Columbia/CBS Records, which included the song "Working Too Hard". Despite critical acclaim, commercial success was limited. Their second album, The Kids Are the Same, was released in 1982 but faced a similar fate. The group then changed its name to Paul Collins' Beat and released several EPs, including To Beat or Not to Beat (1983) and Long Time Gone (1985). In 1989, they released the album One Night, which featured acoustic instruments.
