Biography

Vicente de Castro Giménez, known professionally as Parrita, was born in 1958 in Valencia, Spain. A Spanish cantaor of Romani ethnicity, Parrita began his musical journey by performing with various groups while working as a fishmonger and waiter. His breakthrough came in 1982 with the release of his debut album Dama, Dama, which included a cover of Cecilia's "Dama, dama". Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Parrita released several albums, including Embrujao (1983), Nuevas ilusiones (1985), and Vuela más alto que tú (1987), which earned him a gold record. Notable collaborations include working with Paco de Lucía on the album Quita el sentío (1995) and performing at the Olympia in Paris. Parrita's career spanned over three decades, influencing subsequent generations of flamenco artists. He passed away in 2020 in Terrassa, Spain, leaving behind a rich discography that includes Todo Parrita (2005) and Copla Flamenca (2015).
