Biography

Palmenia del Carmen Pizarro González (performing as Palmenia Pizarro; born July 19, 1941) is a Chilean bolero, vals peruano, and ballad singer from San Felipe. Pizarro began a career at age seven and relocated to Santiago at age eleven. In 1962, Pizarro signed with EMI Music following the radio contest Así canta Perú. Pizarro recorded the tracks “Mi pobreza” and “Amarga experiencia” in 1963. Following the song “Cariño malo”, Pizarro relocated to Mexico and performed on the television program Siempre en domingo. Pizarro performed internationally in Australia, the United States, Argentina, and Japan. Awards include the Premio a la Música Nacional Presidente de la República (2000) and Silver and Gold Seagulls at the Viña del Mar Festival (2001). In 2009, Pizarro was named “Figura fundamental de la música chilena”. Studio albums include Para cantarle al mundo (1991), Sin concesiones (2003), and Íntimo (2015).
