Biography

Starting out in his parents' basement playing around with keyboards and computer programmes, Adam Young found songs and music naturally pouring out of his imagination and he soon had scores of whimsical, cheery, electronic pop tunes. Driven by insomnia and boredom, the Minnesotan started posting his demos on MySpace and the popularity of his track Hello Seattle earned a deal with Universal Records in 2008. Taking the name Owl City because of its random otherworldy wonder, his delicate, soulful, heartfelt singalong Fireflies quickly became a huge success, topping the US and UK singles charts and gaining over 100 million YouTube views. Album Ocean Eyes (2009) reached Number 8 in the US and his kooky songwriting and electronic melodies came with a refreshingly humble and honest persona that charmed an army of female, teenage fans. Follow-ups All Things Bright And Beautiful (2011) and The Midsummer Station (2012) both made the Top 10 and Young went on to score his second major hit when he teamed up with Carlie Rae Jepsen on the summery, feel-good anthem Good Time.
