Osvaldo Farrés was a Cuban songwriter and composer born on January 13, 1902, in Quemado de Güines. He relocated to Havana at age 25 and worked as an illustrator before beginning a career in music. In 1937, he composed the track âMis cinco hijos (Pedro, Pablo, Chucho, Jacinto, José)â, which was performed by Miguelito Valdés. His bolero âAcércate másâ became recognized internationally in 1940 and was adapted as âCome Closer to Meâ for the film Easy to Wed (1946). Farrés hosted the program El bar melódico de Osvaldo Farrés on radio and television. His compositions included the boleros âToda una vidaâ, âTres palabrasâ, and âQuizás, quizás, quizásâ. In 1962, he left Cuba and settled in West New York, New Jersey, where he established his own production company. Farrés died on December 22, 1985, in North Bergen.
