Biography

Author, composer and performer, Djibril Ba, aka Jeeba (or Jeeba Abdn) was born in Thiès, Senegal, in the early 1990s, into a Peule family. Jeeba listened to a lot of Senegalese classics as a child, notably Youssou N' Dour. He found his calling at an early age, singing at Senegalese end-of-year balls before becoming a singer in the Galsen rap group (rap that breaks away from American hip-hop to assert Senegalese identity). It was after his studies, in 2017, that Jeeba launched his solo project and immediately set up his own label, Abadan Daiman. He has made a name for himself with a style he calls "Jolofbeat", a blend of traditional music, such as Mbalax and Afro-trap, and contemporary music, hip-hop, soul and r'n'b. With his angelic voice, he soon made a name for himself, notably with the track " So bayiwoul", which was used as the theme tune for a TV series in 2018. The artist released a string of singles, and "Happy birthday" became a hit that gesn would repeat at birthday parties. Each single is a success, and his track "Yitma ", released in 2019, earns him a nomination for "Revelation of the Year" at the Rayaa Musique Awards. In 2020, he released "Diabari". In 2021, a featuring with ISS 814 on the track "Xou Ma ci bët" earned him another nomination at the Rayaa musique awards in the Best Collaborations category. He released his debut album, Alajee, in December 2022, racking up a million listens on streaming two days after its release. It includes the hits "Champion", "Lamou saff" and "Aladji ".
