Biography
Canadian singer-songwriter Nicola Ciccone displayed an affinity for writing music early in his life. From the age of twelve, his first compositions were in English, however it was his French material over the next few years that gained him recognition. In 1998, at age 24, Ciccone won the prestigious Ma Premiere Place de Arts award, receiving his first recording contract soon after. While studying at McGill University in Montreal, Ciccone released his debut album, L'Opera du Mendiant (The Opera of the Beggar), in 1999 to considerable critical acclaim, selling 60,000 units and earning him two JUNO Award nominations in 2001. In that same year, he released his second full-length album, Noctambule; a concept album incorporating rock influences and lyrical themes. In 2003, his third full-length, J'T'aime Tout Court, was released, charting at number 1 for several weeks, certified gold soon after, with Ciccone's record label releasing the album in Europe a year later, winning Ciccone his first Felix Award in 2003 for his single "J't'aime tout court". In 2006, he started recording Nous Serons Six Milliards, which was released in the fall of that year, winning two Felix Awards for Best Male Singer in 2007 and 2009 respectively. Between 2010 and 2019, Ciccone released a further eight albums including Imaginaire (2010), Les Incontournables (2014) and Le long chemin (2019). Heralded for its simplicity and authenticity, his 2021 album Gratitude, written during the COVID-19 pandemic, was extremely well received and in 2022, he released his soulful tri-lingual Christmas record L'esprit Noël, preceding a successful national tour.
