Biography

Born on February 1, 1964 in Dolbeau-Mistassini (Canada), Mario Pelchat is a Quebec pop singer. He recorded his first single, " Je suis un chanteur ", in September 1981. He released his first album of the same name the following year, followed in 1983 by Tu M'As Fait Mal. In 1988, he released an album of the same name, which went platinum and placed five songs on the Quebec charts: " Ailleurs ", " J'ai le blues de toi ", " L'Otage ", " Reste-là " and " Voyager sans toi ". In 1990, Mario Pelchat presents the opus Couleur Passion , which is certified gold in less than a week. Quand on y croit " and " Sur ta musique " reach the top 10 on Quebec radio. The same year, he wins the Félix award for Male Performer of the Year. In 1993, Pelchat' s album is certified double platinum, and wins Album of the Year at the ADISQ gala. Five songs from this album hit the Quebec charts, including " Pleurs dans la pluie " and " Plus haut que moi ", a duet with Céline Dion. February 1995 saw the release of C'Est la Vie, featuring the title track, a French adaptation of the Emerson, Lake & Palmer song of the same name, " Le Bleu du ciel " and " Le Semeur ", both of which proved successful. The following year, he was invited to give concerts in Beirut, Lebanon. In 1998, Mario Pelchat founds his own label, MP3 Disques. In 1999, he released his first album, which he produced on his own label. That same year, he won the role of Quasimodo in the second cast of the musical Notre-Dame de Paris , which led him to perform in Canada, France, Belgium, Italy and Lebanon. In 2002, he released the album Pelchat 2002, marking 20 years in the music business. He also won the role of Moses in the musical Les Dix Commandements. The following year, he played Don Carlos in the play Don Juan. In 2006, he produced his first album by an artist other than himself, with Cindy Daniel. In 2009, Mario's agent, Lionel Levault, asked him to revisit 15 of Michel Legrand's greatest hits. The Mario Pelchat / Michel Legrand album, recorded in the studio with Legrand himself, was crowned album of the year in the jazz category at the ADISQ gala. In October 2010, he presents Toujours de Nous, which is certified gold the following year, and places 4 songs on the Quebec charts, including the title track, which reaches #7. For Mario's 50th birthday, as well as his 20th wedding anniversary in 2014, he releases the album Un Homme Qui Vous Ressemble . The following year, he records a tribute album to Gilbert Bécaud. In 2017, he released an album with a choir of priests. It stays at the top of the sales charts for several weeks and wins the Félix for best-selling album. In 2019, he releases a tribute to Charles Aznavour. In 2021, he celebrates 40 years in the music business with Comme au Premier Rendez-Vous, an album featuring 12 original songs and 15 songs representing each era of his career. In 2025, the singer celebrates his 60th birthday with the album Duos de Mes 60 Ans, featuring recent and past collaborations with Ginette Reno, Patrick Bruel, Isabelle Boulay, Garou, Lynda Lemay, Petitom, Chimène Badi, Maurane, Daniel Lavoie, Bruno Pelletier, Anggun, Anne Sila and Slimane.
