Biography

Nick Heyward is a pop-rock singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known as the lead vocalist and songwriter for the new wave pop band Haircut One Hundred. Born on 20 May 1961 in Beckenham, Kent, he began his musical journey in the late 1970s, forming several bands with friends before settling on Haircut One Hundred. The band achieved significant success in the early 1980s with hits like "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)" and their debut album, Pelican West, which reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum. In January 1983, he departed from Haircut One Hundred to pursue a solo career. His debut solo single, "Whistle Down the Wind," reached No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart. He continued to release successful singles and albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including "Take That Situation," "Blue Hat for a Blue Day," and the album North of a Miracle, which peaked at No. 10 in the UK. After a period of relative quiet, he returned with the album Woodland Echoes in 2017, his first pop album in 18 years, which received positive reviews. In recent years, he has continued to perform and record, maintaining a dedicated fanbase and contributing to the pop and rock music scenes. In 2022, his 2006 album The Mermaid and the Lighthouse Keeper was re-released.
