Biography

Tommy Tutone is an American power pop led by singer Tommy Heath, who grew up in various locations throughout the US before moving to San Francisco during the Summer of Love to become a hippie. In 1978, he formed Tommy Tutone with Jim Keller and Terry Nails, named after his nickname. The band's first single "Angel Say No" was released in 1980 and reached number 40 on the charts. They opened for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers during their US tour for Damn the Torpedoes. In 1981, Tommy Tutone released their second album Tommy Tutone 2, which featured the hit song "867-5309/Jenny". The song peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band's lineup changed frequently over the years, with Heath and Keller being the only constant members. In 2006, VH1 named "867-5309/Jenny" the 36th-greatest song of the 1980s. In the decades that followed, Tommy Heath continued to record and tour as Tommy Tutone, releasing albums such as Beautiful Ending in 2019
