Kian Maxwell Bytyci Brownfield, known professionally as Kian, was born on July 14, 2002, in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia. From a young age, he developed an interest in music, receiving his first guitar at the age of seven. His parents' passion for songwriting and their separation in 2010 sparked his early exposure to music. Kian's breakthrough moment came when he wrote and sang the chorus of Baker Boyâs debut single "Cloud 9" in May 2017, which kickstarted his success. In February 2018, Kian released his first solo track, "Too Far Gone", followed by "Waiting" in July, a song he penned at age 14 that reached number 20 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2018. He was later announced as the winner of the 2018 Triple J Unearthed competition and signed a recording deal with EMI Music Australia and Republic Records. In May 2019, Kian released his debut extended play BLISS and embarked on a tour in late July into early August. Notable tracks from this period include "Childism", which tackled themes of societal exclusion for young people. He released the single "Shine" as part of another extended play released in August 2022 . In March 2023, he collaborated with Becca Hatch on the single "All of Me". Kian released his debut studio album Wake Up, Youâre Falling in November 2024.
