New Rhodes were a British indieâpop fourâpiece formed in 2001 in Bristol by James Williams (vocals/guitar), Joe Gascoigne (guitar), Jack Ashdown (bass/vocals) and later drummer Tim Desmond; the group emerged from a college friendship and quickly relocated to Hackney, London in 2004. Their early breakthrough came with the single "I Wish I Was You" (2004) and the selfâreleased EP The Life Story of Nelson Scamp (2002), which established their presence on the UK indie circuit. In 2005 the single "You've Given Me Something That I Can't Give Back" entered the UK Topâ¯40 at numberâ¯38, and the band released EP (2006) through Moshi Moshi Records, followed by the album Songs From The Lodge (2006) on Salty Cat Records. Subsequent releases included "Everybody Loves a Scene" (2009) and the single "Quando Quando Quando" (2009). New Rhodes toured extensively across the UK and Europe, supporting acts such as Razorlight, Bloc Party, The Killers and The Futureheads, and collaborated with producers Paul Epworth, James Ford and Ian Grimble. In 2006 the group received a Vodafone Live Music Award. The lineup was finalized in 2006 when Desmond joined as drummer, after earlier drummers Dave Hounsome, Chun Leek and Steve Bishop. After a decade of activity, the band disbanded in spring 2010, playing a final show at the Fleece & Firkin in Bristol, the venue of their first gig.
