A House was an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in 1985 by vocalist Dave Couse, guitarist Fergal Bunbury, drummer Dermot Wylie, and bassist Martin Healy. The group honed their skills performing in local venues such as McGonagle's club and RTÉ's TV GaGa. Their earliest recorded appearance was on the charity compilation Blackrock Youth Aid '85. After recording a John Peel Session for BBC radio, A House signed with Blanco y Negro, releasing the singles "Heart Happy" and "Call Me Blue" in 1987. The latter reached number 28 in the Irish charts and number 3 in the Billboard College Charts in 1989. Their debut album, On Our Big Fat Merry-Go-Round, was released the same year. Following a tour with the Go-Betweens, A House recorded their second album, I Want Too Much (1989), on Inishboffin Island. They then signed with Setanta Records and released two EPs, Doodle and Bingo, in 1990-1991. The latter featured "Endless Art", produced by Edwyn Collins of Orange Juice, which became one of A House's most recognized songs. Despite distribution issues, the single reached number 50 in the UK Top charts in 1992.
