Biography

Ned Rothenberg, born on September 15, 1956, in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist specializing in woodwind instruments. He graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Rothenberg's career began with the release of his album, Trials of the Argo, in 1981. He was a founding member of the woodwind trio New Winds with J.D. Parran and Robert Dick, releasing several albums, including The Cliff (1989) and Traction (1991). Throughout his career, Rothenberg has collaborated with numerous artists, including Paul Dresher, Fred Frith, Evan Parker, Marc Ribot, John Zorn, and Yuji Takahashi. Notable solo works include Portal (1983), Opposites Attract (1991) with Paul Dresher, Amulet (1996) with Sainkho Namtchylak, and World of Odd Harmonics (2012). Rothenberg has also contributed to various projects as a sideman, working with Anthony Braxton, Kip Hanrahan, Denman Maroney, Steve Nieve, Evan Parker, Adam Rudolph, and Steve Swell.
