Nav Katze, a Japanese band formed in 1984, consisted of singer and bassist Miwako Yamaguchi, guitarist Naoko Iimura, and drummer Shino Furutachi. Their debut self-titled single was released in December 1986 under the Switch label. In 1991, Nav Katze signed with Victor Entertainment's Invitation sublabel for their major-label debut with the album Kanki. Furutachi left the band shortly after and the band released The Last Rose in Summer in 1992. The group contributed two tracks to the soundtrack of the OVA Video Girl Ai that same year. Nav Katze gained international recognition in the electronica scene through their remix albums Never Mind the Distortion and Never Mind the Distortion II, released in 1994 and 1997 respectively, which featured remixed versions by European artists such as Aphex Twin and Autechre.
