Biography

Nao Yoshioka is a Japanese soul singer who was born in Osaka and as a teenager was influenced by artists such as Jocelyn Brown and Nina Simone. Nao emerged into the public eye after travelling to the States to enter amateur night at the prestigious McDonald's GospelFest, which is an annual music festival sponsored by the fast food giant and held in New Jersey. The young Japanese singer was voted runner-up and subsequently signed to Japan's Sweet Soul label. She recorded the track 'Make the Change' for a sampler released by Sweet Soul in 2013 followed up by her debut album 'The Light', which came out later that year. Nao has a smooth, sophisticated style which suits her chosen genre and her interpretations of soul classics have won her fans amongst R&B audiences both in her home country and the USA.
