Soulhead, a Japanese pop band, was formed in 2009 and consisted of sisters Yoshika Sawayama and Tsugumi Sawayama. The duo initially performed under the name Batti Baas before adopting Soulhead. Their first release as Batti Baas was the vinyl single "Lovin' You" featuring Aaron Blackmon in 2001. In February 2002, they released their CD single "Inside Out". Shortly after, they were signed to Sony Music Associated Records and began working under the pseudonym Soulhead. The label sent them to Australia and New Zealand to improve their English proficiency. Their debut single as Soulhead was "Step To The New World" in August 2002. Soulhead's sound blended genres such as soul, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, reggae, and funk, with many lyrics in English. They worked extensively with the production team Octopussy and collaborated with artists like Koda Kumi and Soul'd Out. In 2010, after a hiatus, they released the album Soulhead. Their greatest hits compilation, Best of Soulhead, was released in February 2007. The duo disbanded in 2011 following the release of their final album Jump Up the Wall.
