Daichi Miura, born on August 24, 1987, in Okinawa, Japan, is a Japanese singer, songwriter, dancer, and choreographer. Inspired by Michael Jackson from an early age, he embarked on his artistic journey after his mother enrolled him in the Okinawa Actors’ School at the age of six, where he honed his skills in singing and dancing. In 1997, at the age of nine, Miura became a member of the adolescent group Folder, assuming the role of main vocalist under the stage name "DAICHI." The group made waves with their debut single "Parachuter," while Miura's talent also landed him a regular spot on the TV show Ponkikkies. Transitioning to a solo career under his full birth name, Daichi Miura released singles like “Big Heart ~Theme of Microman~" (1997) before parting ways with Folder in 2000 to focus on dance training. Returning in 2004 with debut solo single "Keep It Goin' On," which peaked at number 14 on the Oricon charts, Miura followed this with array of successful releases such as "Free Style" and "Southern Cross," and performing at various national tours and concerts. Over the years, Miura's artistic spectrum expanded as he ventured into choreography and began writing his own music and lyrics, resulting in the release of top 10 singles such as "Two Hearts" (2012) and "Right Now/Voice." (2012) Garnering further recognition in 2014, Miura clinched the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Japanese Act and the MTV Video Music Award for Best R&B Video in Japan. His 2015 album FEVER achieved considerable success, charting not only on the Oricon but also the Billboard charts, coming in at number 3 and 4, respectively. After hit singles like "Cry & Fight" and "(RE)PLAY," amassed further acclaim, Miura’s music was included in various television dramas and films, with “EXCITE,” from Kamen Rider Ex-Aid giving Miura his first platinum-certified Number 1 single. Continuing to gain momentum, the sixth album, Hit (2017) once again landed him in the top 5 of both the Oricon and Billboard charts, seeing compilation album Best, skyrocket to Number 1 during the following year, earning a Gold certification as well as the Artist of the Year award at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards in Japan. After spending the next few years touring and collaborating with other artists, Miura dropped a string of non-album singles, including “I’m Here” (2020) "Backwards," (2021) and "San San" (2022), which secured the top spot on the Billboard charts. His eighth album, Over was released on February 14, 2024, landing at number 6.
