Nèg'Marrons is a French reggae/dancehall band formed in 1995 in GargesâlèsâGonesse, Valâd'Oise, by BenâJ from the Republic of Congo, Djamatik from Martinique and Jacky Brown from Cape Verde. The trio began making music in local clubs and released the single "La Monnaie" on the soundtrack of Thomas Gilouâs film Raï, marking their first public appearance. Their debut studio album Rue Case Nègres followed in 1997, recorded in London with a Jamaican rhythm section, and the title paid homage to the eponymous film important to the Antillean community. In 2000, they issued Le Bilan, produced by Tyrone Downie, which peaked at number 16 on the French charts and achieved gold certification within five weeks. The 2003 album Héritage produced hits such as "Tout le monde debout" and "Disâmoi si j'te saoule", featuring collaborations with Jamaican artists Mr.â¯Vegas. After a brief hiatus, they returned in 2008 with Les Liens Sacrés, and in 2016 released Valeur Sûre, the latter marking their fifth studio effort. In 2026, they issued a selfâtitled album Nèg' Marrons ten years after the previous release, reaffirming their enduring presence in French reggae and hipâhop circles.
