Biography
Nacht und Nebel was a Belgian new wave and synthpop band formed in 1981 by Patrick Nebel, who was born Patrick Marina Schools on 23 November 1958. The founding members included Luc Olyslager and Alban Bentein. They released their first four-track extended play, Alcatraz (1981), though Nebel destroyed most copies due to dissatisfaction with the result. After signing with Antler Records, they released their debut studio album, Casablanca (1982). They achieved significant success with the album Beats of Love (1983) and its title track, âBeats of Loveâ (1983). The single reached number 3 on the Belgian charts and sold 165,000 copies across Belgium and France. Their subsequent hits included âZafariâ (1983) and âÃtoile du Nordâ (1984). They released their final studio album, Victoria 2000 (1985), featuring the singles âReady to Danceâ (1985) and âVictoria 2000â (1985). Nebel died on 15 March 1986 in Ekeren due to heart disease and substance abuse. The band disbanded thereafter, and the posthumous compilation Songs for Ever (1986) was released.
