Biography

Animotion, an American synth-pop band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1983. The group emerged from the remnants of a retro science-fiction band called Red Zone and initially consisted of Astrid Plane, Bill Wadhams, Paul Antonelli, Charles Ottavio, David "Frenchy" O'Brien, and Don Kirkpatrick. Their breakthrough came with the release of their self-titled debut album Animotion in November 1984, which featured the international hit "Obsession." The song reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted in multiple countries. Following this success, Animotion released several more albums, including Strange Behavior (1986) and Animotion (Room to Move) (1989). Notable songs from these albums include "Let Him Go" and "I Engineer." The band underwent significant lineup changes, with founding members Astrid Plane, Bill Wadhams, and Charles Ottavio departing by 1988. Despite these challenges, Animotion continued to tour extensively, performing alongside acts such as Phil Collins and Depeche Mode. After disbanding in the early 1990s, Animotion reunited in 2001 with its original members and has continued to perform live, releasing their first studio album in nearly 30 years, Raise Your Expectations, in 2017.
