Biography

Jana Mashonee, known professionally as Jana, is a singer and songwriter from the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. After graduating from Davidson College, she signed her first record deal with Curb Records. Her breakthrough came with the single "Ooh, Baby, Baby" (1999), which was named Billboardâs Single of the Week. Jana's subsequent releases included "More Than Life", which sold over a million copies, and a cover of Led Zeppelinâs "Stairway to Heaven" that topped the Billboard dance charts. Exploring her cultural roots, she released American Indian Story in 2006, earning a Grammy nomination, followed by New Moon Born (2009). She also founded Janaâs Kids Foundation, supporting Native youth through scholarships and programs.
