Biography

German pop band, The Winners, formed in 1988 with lead singer Gary Wendel and three background singers. Their debut single "Go for Gold" became an unofficial hit of the Olympic Summer Games in Seoul, reaching number 3 on the German Singlecharts and number 20 in Switzerland. In 1989, The Winners collaborated with Akina Stevens on the official title "This Time" for the IAA in Frankfurt am Main. Following Gary Wendel's departure, songwriter Wolfgang Jass took over vocal duties. Between 1988 and 1995, the band released several albums including We Go For Number One (1990), The Winners (1992), and Happy Holiday (1993). Notable singles from this period include "Stay On Top" and the title track of the ARD series Happy Holiday. The group also contributed to the soundtrack of the TV series Klinik unter Palmen in 1995. After a hiatus, the original members Gary Wendel and Jenny returned as 2Winners in 2012, releasing the album Yes We Can with producer Ray Watts.
