Biography

Muriel Zoe is a German singer-songwriter and visual artist born in 1969 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. She grew up in India and Reinbek and began playing guitar at age 12. In 1988, she studied painting and graphic design at the Freie Kunstschule Nürtingen before enrolling in a popular music course at the Hochschule für Musik Hamburg in 1990. Zoe established her first band, Zoe's Echos, in 1992 and followed this with the group Zoe and the Zebras in 1995. She launched her solo recording career with the jazz-oriented album Red and Blue (2003). She followed this with the studio album Neon Blue (2005) and performed as a vocalist for the ambient nu-jazz ensemble Field. Her subsequent recordings include the studio albums Flood (2009) and Birds and Dragons (2011). In addition to her musical career, Zoe has held several art exhibitions since 1994 and serves as a lecturer for painting and printmaking at the Hamburg Museum of Work.
