Biography

Mournful Congregation is an Australian funeral doom metal band formed in 1993 in Adelaide. Founded by Damon Good, the group released several early demos, including Weeping in 1994 and An Epic Dream of Desire in 1995. Their debut studio album, Tears from a Grieving Heart, was issued in 1999. In 2002, the band released the comprehensive compilation The Dawning of Mournful Hymns. Following the release of The Monad of Creation in 2005, the ensemble gave their first live performance in 2009 to promote the album The June Frost. Mournful Congregation continued to expand their discography with The Book of Kings and the compilation The Unspoken Hymns in 2011. After the release of the EP Concrescence of the Sophia in 2014 and the album The Incubus of Karma in 2018, the group entered a hiatus. They resumed activity in 2022 with the EP series The Exuviae of Gods, Part I, followed by Part II in 2023.
