Biography

Born in Amstelveen, Netherlands, on May 14, 1996, Martin Garrix is a Dutch DJ who placed ninth in Forbes Magazine's list of the top ten highest-earning DJs in pop music with a reputed $19,500,000 in 2017, at the age of just 21. Having learned to play the guitar as a child, he was inspired by Dutch performer Tiësto to become a DJ. He emerged quickly onto the dance club scene and was included in magazine lists of the top DJs. His first single "Animals" topped Billboard's Dance Club Songs Chart and the UK's Official Singles Chart and placed at number 12 on Billboard's Mainstream top 40 in 2013. "Wizard" with Jay Hardway peaked at Number 7 in the UK in 2014 and reached Number 16 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart where "Gold Skies" landed at Number 19 and "Turn Up the Speakers" with Afrojack hit Number 20. His 2015 single "Don't Look Down" featuring Usher went to Number 11, and in 2016 he signed a worldwide recording deal with Sony Music. His single "In the Name of Love" with Bebe Rexha topped the Dance Club Chart, peaked at Number 3 on the Hot Dance Chart, Number 9 in the UK, and Number 16 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40. He also won two prizes at the MTV European Music Awards in 2016. "Scared to Be Lonely" went to Number 9 in 2017 on the Hot Dance Chart, Number 14 in the UK, and Number 21 on the Mainstream top 40. "There for You" followed suit by hitting Number 12 on the Hot Dance Chart. During the subsequent years, he collaborated with artists like Dua Lipa, David Guetta, Macklemore, and Khalid. He also maintained his place on the Dutch Top 40 with 2021's "Pressure" and the all-star collaboration "We Are the People," the latter of which featured Bono and The Edge of U2.
