Miquèu Montanaro, born on August 13, 1955 in Hyères, France, is a French songwriter and musician. He began his musical journey learning the saxophone before delving into traditional Provençal music, focusing on the galoubet-tambourin. Montanaro released several albums, such as Musica Populara Occitana (1975), Viatge (1978), Musiques de Provance (1989), and La Polonaise (2006). He performed with notable artists like Barre Phillips, Alan Vitous, and Georges Moustaki. Montanaro's work extended to theater, ballet, and film scores, showcasing his versatility as a multi-instrumentalist. His solo show Raga Tambourin redefined traditional Provençal music by incorporating jazz and world influences. Montanaro also founded the group Vents d'Est, blending Hungarian and Provençal musical traditions. Additionally, he organized Les Joutes musicales de printemps, an annual event in Correns dedicated to musical creation.
